In the third round of the AHSP Fellowships Dr Vassilis Pitsinis, Consultant Breast Surgeon and Dr Jai Mannick (Jaiganesh Manickavasagam), Consultant ENT, both Ninewells, have been awarded Fellowships, commencing September 2017 for a period of 2 years. Dr Pitsinis’ work will aim to answer the question: could the novel technique of fluorescence detection of sentinel lymphnodes (SLNs) with indocyanine green (ICG) be used as a standard of care for early breast cancer patients, and Dr Mannick’s interests are in running two new head and neck cancer research trials in Dundee, the COMPARE AND ION trials. These annual Fellowships provide an innovative opportunity for health professionals working in the NHS to develop and consolidate a research portfolio amounting to 2 PAs for 24 months. Candidates must be Consultants in the NHS within 6 years of obtaining their first consultant post (or equivalent WTE if part-time) although exceptions will be considered.
