19th February, 2009

Leading figures in the biotechnology sector are to get an insight into the work of world-class medical research in Dundee. The overview of the £10.5million clinical research centre at Ninewells Hospital and tour of its facilities next week has been organised by BioDundee. The centre opened last year to develop new methods of clinical research and act as a “hub” for researchers throughout Tayside. The range of studies being run currently covers a range of diseases including diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular conditions.
A partnership between the public, private and academic sector, BioDundee was established to strengthen the life sciences sector in the city through joint working, networking, knowledge and skills development.

Life sciences brings together a number of fields including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, biology and medicine. The centre promotes the Dundee life sciences sector as world-class.

Its facilities include MRI and PET scanners and a clinical research department with a range of ward areas, laboratories and office accommodation. Business development manager Cameron Glen will host the visit which will include representatives from the biotechnology sector from across the city.
