Applied QI

The Improvement Team supports staff to use Quality Improvement (QI) approaches in order to help NHS Tayside to achieve its organisational objectives.

The Improvement Team is trained in a variety of methods that help teams to build or enhance their understanding of the system of care in which they work. This understanding can then be used constructively to design and test improvements in care delivery or experience of care for patients, underpinned by method and measurement.

Support from the team takes a number of forms. For example, the team can;

  • Provide individual or team-based QI advice and support
  • Design, set up and lead simple to complex QI programmes in a range of settings
  • Provide hands-on application of QI approaches to generate efficiencies which maintain or improve quality of care
  • Design, implement and evaluate training in QI for staff across the full family of professions within NHS Tayside

Examples of settings in which the Improvement Team has recently provided support include;

  • Elective and non-elective Surgery
  • Mental Health Services
  • Interpretation and Translation services
  • Primary Care prescribing
  • Care pathways across a range of specialty services
